Food Restaurant Franchise

For ten years S.J. Hart was responsible for the office operations of a fast food restaurant franchise with 14 restaurants in two states. Even though the company had adequate software, it was not being used to its best advantage. Cash flow computations were done manually about twice a month. Inventory control and value computations, complex payroll journal entries, and other amortized entries were being completed manually. Hart streamlined and computerized the bookkeeping functions to provide instantaneous cash flow data. Hart also utilized existing software applications to consolidate the manual tasks that had taken up to five full days to complete into simple data entry processes requiring only a couple of hours. The filing system was redesigned so that information on payments, employees, and other business information was easily filed and quickly retrieved. When the parent franchising organization audited the company, the auditor commented that it was the cleanest, most organized set up he had ever seen. This franchise
did its own in house payroll, handled all of the inventory control and
payables for all fourteen restaurants, and managed the advertising through
an in-house agency. The company had three full time office employees working
and Hart enabled the company to reduce the staff to two full time employees
plus one limited part-time employee resulting in a $10,000.00 to $15,000.00
per year savings.
